| San Fabian is a border community located 68 km. The city of Chillán and 43 km. San Carlos, covering an area of 1.482 km2 and has a population of 3.646 inhabitants, of which 63% is rural population.

It is a valley that is defined by two big hills, Cerro Malalcura that in Mapudungun means "stone hill" with 2.100 meters high and the Cerro Alico which means "Hot Water", with 1200 meters.
Most of the territory is mountainous, with steep slopes, gullies, ravines, rivers, estuaries and lagoons. Elevation above sea level ranges from 480 meters to 2,200.
Its climate is defined as temperate Mediterranean-type. The rains occur in the cold winter season, while the summer is characterized by a dry hot season.

The commune is named San Fabián and the capital or the village is called "San Fabian Alico," which was founded by Don Fabian de la Fuente, who in his old age decided to form a mountain village by the Supreme Decree, the day December 7 of 1865, charted in this beautiful valley at the foot of the hills and Malalcura Alico.
